I genuinely love Kabukicho, from the brightly-decorated entrances to the less brightly-decorated hosts themselves. One might think that the area devoted to love hotels and host clubs in a city the size of Tokyo might be sleazy, but it really isn’t.

An alleyway off a main street in Shinjuku during the daytime. Getting closer to Kabukicho, but it’s still daylight. Just outside the east exit of Shinjuku Station during the afternoon.

I actually walked to Ikebukuro from here, so here’s a picture around the Shin Okubo area.

A love hotel. 5000 yen or 9000 yen, depending on if you’re having a quickie or intend to stay all night. Two clubs, side-by-side.

The same love hotel from earlier, from a different angle. More love hotels. A range of clubs and bars.

This club had dogs outside. They looked so large and fluffy, I thought they were toys at first. Restaurants and a night kiosk. Heading out of Kabukicho.

I hope you enjoyed my photo walk around Kabukicho. If you want to see more of Tokyo, you might also like my photos of Asakusa, which is a more traditional area. If you were only here for the pretty boys (sorry!), maybe you’ll have better luck with my review of Space Battleship Yamato (movie) or my list of the top 10 anime musicals and shows.
